Frequently asked questions

Why is grass-fed beef more expensive than supermarket beef?

Our pricing reflects the cost of sourcing quality beef, raising animals, processing, and preparing a variety of cuts for your freezer. Buying a beef share is also a convenient way to purchase a larger quantity at once.

Is the beef sold by hanging weight or packaged weight?

Hanging weight is the weight of the dressed carcass before final trimming and cutting. Packaged weight is the actual meat you take home after processing. The packaged amount is lower because of trimming, bone removal where applicable, and processing losses.

What cuts are included in a beef share?

Depending on your share size and processing options, you may receive steaks such as ribeye, New York strip, sirloin, and filet, along with ground beef, roasts, brisket, and other cuts. Exact quantities vary by animal and processing choices.

Can I choose the cuts I want?

We can discuss your preferences before processing, subject to the available cuts and our processor's options. If you prefer more ground beef, specific steak thicknesses, or particular roasts, let us know when arranging your order.

How much freezer space do I need?

That depends on your share size and how efficiently your freezer is organized. An eighth beef requires considerably less space than a whole or half beef. We recommend checking your available freezer capacity before ordering, and we can help you choose a suitable share.

Is grass-fed beef leaner than regular beef?

Grass-fed beef is often leaner than grain-finished beef, although the amount of fat varies by animal and cut. Because it can be leaner, we recommend cooking it carefully to help preserve tenderness and flavor.

What happens if a cow gets sick?

An animal's health should always come first. If treatment is needed, it should be provided responsibly, with veterinary guidance where appropriate. Any required medication withdrawal periods and food-safety requirements must be met before the animal is processed for food.

What is your process regarding antibiotics?

Animal health is important to us. Any necessary treatment should be handled responsibly, with appropriate veterinary guidance and withdrawal periods observed before an animal enters the food supply. We can clarify the specific antibiotic policy for the cattle supplying your order.
